We have a great opportunity for an experienced Senior Product Owner with strong engineering and data operations background to join our Data team. 

What’s your role?

The Senior Product Owner for Platform Reliability plays a critical role in ensuring the continued success of our data platform by focusing on system reliability, engineering excellence, and operational best practices. 

The Senior PO will oversee the improvement of reliability engineering practices and develop proactive strategies to maintain and enhance platform performance, aiming to position the Chief Data Office as a world-class, data-driven leader. 

This role involves leading efforts to improve and innovate the operational aspects of the data platform, including service levels, incident and change management, root cause analysis, and overall system health, with a strong emphasis on critical monitoring and threshold alerting. 

With a strong engineering and operational leadership background, the Senior PO will be hands on and will guide the platform’s evolution from growth to ensuring that operational fundamentals, system reliability, and support processes are seamless, scalable, and customer-focused, driving value for our customers.

Technical experience required across a range of core Azure and Databricks technologies:

Expert / Intermediate Knowledge Required:

  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure (core): Azure Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Monitor, Azure Key Vault, Azure Private Link
  • Networking: Virtual Networks, NSGs, Firewalls, ExpressRoute, Private Endpoints
  • Security: Azure RBAC, Defender for Cloud, Purview, Managed Identities, Conditional Access
  • Monitoring & Logging: Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights

Basic Knowledge:

  • Data Engineering & Analytics:  ETL/ELT Pipelines: Azure Data Factory, Databricks
  • Big Data & Processing: Apache Spark (Databricks), Delta Lake

Highly Desirable:

  • Data Security: Immuta, Databricks Column/Row Security and/or masking
  • Data Management: Ataccama and/or other related governance and management technology
  • Integration Technology: Qlik Attunity
  • Database Support knowledge: Azure SQL DB, Cosmos DB, SQL Server
  • Data Modelling knowledge: Star/Snowflake schemas, Lakehouse architecture
  • DevOps & Automation: Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates

What will my day involve?

  • Leading as the Product Owner of the Reliability squad to drive innovation and operational excellence
  • Reliability Strategy and Roadmap - Collaborate with stakeholders, to develop and execute a roadmap that ensures the platform’s reliability, operational excellence
  • Operational Prioritisation and Performance - Gather insights to identify and prioritise key initiatives aimed at enhancing platform reliability, incident management, and operational efficiency
  • Platform Reliability Discovery - Lead discovery efforts by engaging with stakeholders, technical experts, and operational teams to identify opportunities for improving platform resilience and reliability
  • Incident Management and Agile Operations - Lead cross-functional teams in the execution of incident response. Ensure that reliability and operational enhancements are delivered on time
  • User Support & Engagement - Drive user engagement and satisfaction by improving platform support processes, training initiatives, and clear communication regarding platform health and best practices
  • Reliability Metrics & KPIs - Establish and track key reliability metrics and KPIs, use this data to drive continuous improvement efforts
  • Vendor & Third-Party Relationship Management- Evaluate and manage relationships with third-party vendors, partners, and service providers. Monitor vendor performance, ensuring they meet reliability standards and support operational goals effectively.
