The Senior Genetic Counsellor will report into the Product Lead Genomics In this pivotal role, you will provide expert guidance in the design, development, and governance of Bupa’s genomic offerings, ensuring they are clinically robust, ethically sound, customer-centred, and operationally scalable. Your expertise will shape innovative solutions that deliver meaningful impact for our customers and set new standards in personalized care. 

About the role

Fulltime Permanent Position

This is a non-patient-facing role that brings specialist genetic counselling expertise into product development, evidence appraisal, safety and governance processes, and system-level design. You will shape clinical frameworks, consent pathways, reporting structures, customer communication tools, and training for clinicians and non-clinical teams.

Working collaboratively with product managers, service designers, clinical SMEs, laboratory partners, and operational teams, the Senior Genetic Counsellor ensures genomic testing, including PGx and preventative multi-gene risk assessment is delivered safely, accessibly, and in alignment with best practice and emerging regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide specialised genetic counselling input into the design, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Bupa’s genomics programs, including PGx, multi-gene risk panels, and whole-genome/exome-based testing.
  • Translate complex genomic evidence into clear, actionable insights to inform product features, clinical workflows, and communication strategies.
  • Review report content, consent materials, result wording, and educational resources to ensure clarity, accuracy, and ethical integrity.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in cross functional working groups, collaborating with product managers, service designers, clinical SMEs, laboratory partners, and operational teams.

About you:

Required:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Genetic Counselling (e.g., Master of Genetic Counselling or equivalent).
  • Fellowship of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia with current board certification.
  • Significant experience in clinical or laboratory-based genetic counselling, with strong knowledge of pharmacogenomics, risk assessment genetics, and preventative genomics.
  • Proven ability to translate complex genomic evidence into clear, customer-friendly language and pragmatic clinical guidance.
  • Expert understanding of ethical, psychosocial, and regulatory considerations in genomic testing.
  • Experience contributing to frameworks, policies, or training materials in a multidisciplinary or digital health environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience in consumer genomics, population genomics, or large-scale screening programs.
  • Familiarity with digital health platforms, EMRs, telehealth, and/or digital product development.
  • Experience working with laboratory partners or variant interpretation frameworks.
  • Understanding of Australian health system regulation, data governance, and privacy requirements.
