The Opportunity

12 month fixed-term opportunity for an experienced Data Scientist to join the Health Insurance Customer Intelligence and Insights team!

In this role, the Data Scientist will be responsible for working with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate these into data-driven approaches. You will ensure that data science projects are supporting the delivery of the health insurance business strategy and customer analytics roadmap. 

The Data Scientist will contribute to the data science centre of excellence and be a true subject matter expert in health insurance data and advanced analytics techniques.

What You’ll Be Doing

Here's what you can look forward to in this role:

  • Execute analytical approaches, including (but not limited to) developing / training / optimising machine learning models, other forms of analytical modelling (e.g. descriptive, predictive) and applied statistics.
  • Develop analytical solutions and work with the business to explore new technologies as they arise, creating end-to-end automation of machine learning solutions, where possible.
  • Leverage capabilities of the new data science platform to productionise relevant analytical models / outputs, supporting the successful migration of customer value model.
  • Put in place and monitor relevant quality assurance measures for productionised models / outputs.
  • Maintain relevant models / outputs through their lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with internal customers to identify their business problems and work with them to provide meaningful, commercial and actionable insights.
  • Lead in-house analytics projects and upskill people across Customer Intelligence and Insights as appropriate.
  • Support / reinforce a culture of having a data-driven approach to all facets of Domestic and Retail Portfolio department.
  • Understand and manage compliance with regulations concerning health insurance data sharing and usage.

What You’ll Bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll ideally have:

  • 3 - 5 years of business experience in customer analytics / data science / data engineering or Actuarial.
  • Qualified in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Machine Learning or related field).
  • Experience in applied machine learning and working knowledge of machine learning / algorithms and statistical modelling techniques is a must.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to navigate uncertainty and generate innovative business solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, using data to illustrate points and tell a story.
  • Programming – Python (preferred), R and/or SAS 
  • Understanding of cloud services (Databricks, Microsoft, etc.)
  • Visualisation tools – including Power BI and Tableau or similar will be highly regarded
  • Understanding of Relational databases & SQL
