Opportunity snapshot: 

This role is responsible for contributing to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of Shopify-based solutions, focusing on front-end and back-end development. The Shopify Developer will work within an Agile team, assisting with requirement analysis, solution design, development, and testing, while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, maintainable, and scalable applications. You will collaborate closely with cross functional teams to meet business objectives and maintain excellent coding standards, emphasising Shopify, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. As a Shopify Developer, you are accountable for your own performance and for contributing to the overall success of the team. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reporting responsibilities.

Your Contribution:

• Develop high-quality Shopify solutions by leveraging existing code libraries, patterns, and architectural techniques. Identify opportunities to extend and enhance code libraries using industry-standard best practices. 
•  Create functional and visually appealing web applications based on usability principles, generating reusable code and libraries for future projects. 
•  Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs, working closely with designers to optimise applications for maximum speed, scalability, and responsiveness. 
•  Take charge of developing and maintaining Shopify storefronts, ensuring high performance, SEO friendliness, and responsiveness across both desktop and mobile platforms. 
•  Write and test clean, efficient code using Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Alpine.js. 
•  Assume responsibility for maintaining and enhancing Shopify websites as needed, ensuring smooth functionality and optimal user experience. 
•  Keep abreast of emerging technologies, with a specific focus on Shopify, ensuring that developments are incorporated into projects where relevant. 
•  Actively advocate for and promote best practices in usability, performance, and accessibility throughout the development process. 
•  Collaborate with team members to ensure technical solutions align with business objectives and deliver desired outcomes. 
•  Optimise applications for speed and scalability, troubleshooting and debugging as needed to ensure smooth performance.

Qualifications, training & Experience

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in web application development. 
•  2+ years of experience in developing Shopify e-commerce websites, ideally familiar with Shopify 2.0 features (e.g., Dawn Theme, JSON Templates, Shopify CLI). 
•  Familiarity with creating custom Shopify apps and customizing Shopify’s checkout process.  Experience integrating Shopify with backend systems (e.g., APIs) is a plus. 
•  Basic knowledge of Shopify Scripts and their applications. 
•  Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS (including HTML5 and CSS3), with an understanding of frameworks like React or Alpine.js. 
•  Familiarity with CSS pre-processing platforms like SASS/SCSS. 
•  Working knowledge of bundling tools like Yarn, NPM, and Webpack. 
•  Good understanding of modern JavaScript (ES5, ES6+) and its principles, including functional programming. 
•  Experience with content management systems is beneficial. 
•  Familiarity with version control tools like Git. 
•  Basic knowledge of SEO principles to ensure best practices in application development.  Understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and their resolution.
