About the job

Be at the heart of our mission to become the world's most customer-centric healthcare company!

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated professional to help maintain a culture of accountability at Bupa by overseeing the implementation of the 'Financial Accountability Regime' (FAR) and leading initiatives to strengthen governance, risk and compliance practices to support effective and ethical decision making.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the implementation of the 'Financial Accountability Regime', acting as the head of the 'FAR Office' by coordinating required reporting and submissions under the regime, and providing support and guidance to 'accountable people' on discharging their responsibilities
  • Lead initiatives to continuously strengthen a culture of accountability through providing constructive challenge, guidance and advice to decision makers through, for example, reviewing management information and facilitating scenario training
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Conduct Framework with a focus on employee behaviour and conduct covering areas such as incentives, reward, and consequence management
  • Enable ethical corporate conduct through maintaining a process to disclose, manage and monitor conflicts of interest, and gifts and hospitality, and
  • Deliver training, communications and business partnering to support your colleagues to understand accountability, ethical decision making, and conduct risk

Reporting to the General Manager - Conduct you will have an APAC regional focus, supporting Bupa’s diverse businesses across Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. Bupa APAC provides health insurance, healthcare, aged care, and Blua. A one-size-fits-all approach is rarely practicable; the right candidate will thrive in ambiguity and will need to hit the ground running with a ‘hands-on’ approach to learning the ropes.

This position is offered as permanent, full-time and may be based at our Melbourne or Sydney offices with flexible, hybrid work arrangements available.

What do I need?

We are seeking professionals with 5-7 years of practical experience in highly regulated environments, such as financial services, insurance, or healthcare.

You might be a seasoned manager looking to step into a senior role, a more senior manager looking to broaden their experience in a welcoming team that supports flexible working, or a consultant seeking the opportunity to apply their skills in a diverse and exciting healthcare business.

You will have a robust knowledge of the FAR, having worked to implement it in an operational or consulting role, and bring with you a knowledge of the key components required to bring the governance and risk culture outcomes it seeks to achieve to life.

In addition, you’ll bring to the role:

  • tertiary qualifications in risk & compliance, law, business, or a related field
  • experience in providing support to senior executives
  • the ability to shift approach based on the size and maturity of a business, to provide fit-for-purpose, practical advice, and drive processes that add value and protect our customers
  • experience in presenting to and influencing senior audiences
  • strong analytical, written and verbal skills to communicate risk concepts and deliver meaningful management information, and
  • proven effective stakeholder management skills, modelling Bupa’s values – Brave, Caring and Responsible.

We know that not everyone will meet every single requirement listed, and that’s okay—if you’re excited about this role and believe you can make a difference, we encourage you to apply.

For this reason, in April 2020 our Health Insurance team invested over $50M and created the hardship team to support our customers when they most needed it.
