The opportunity 

As a Legal Adviser / Senior Legal Adviser - Employment & Litigation, you will be responsible for the provision of legal advice and legal work for Bupa’s APAC business units in relation to:

  • employment law and industrial relations; 
  • equal opportunity / diversity and workplace health and safety; 
  • disputes and litigation, and advocacy; and 
  • regulatory matters. 

How will I help? 

Deliverables to be performed in this role across the APAC Market Unit may include: 

  • Providing legal advice on general employment law, industrial / workplace relations, equal employment opportunity / diversity, workplace health and safety, as well as compliance and regulatory issues and projects, including managing external legal advisors where appropriate across the APAC Market Unit. 
  • Providing legal advice to the APAC Market Unit on the enforceability and interpretation of industrial instruments, bargaining and the rights and obligations of relevant unions under industrial laws. 
  • Undertaking litigious work across the APAC Market Unit and being accountable for attending, advising on and managing pre-litigation commercial disputes and claims made to various industry authorities, tribunals and courts. 
  • Providing legal advice on regulatory matters relevant to Bupa’s businesses across the APAC Market Unit, which operate within a complex regulatory framework. 
  • Partnering with the Legal Manager - Employment & Litigation, and the Legal Director - Bupa Villages & Aged Care, Employment & Litigation, and other members of the team to ensure the provision of the highest quality, reliable and comprehensive legal advice to Bupa’s Leadership Teams and the APAC Market Unit Executive team on matters to which this role relates. 

What do I need? 

  • At least 3 years’ PQE (Legal Adviser) or 6 years’ PQE (Senior Legal Adviser) at a well-respected Australian or international law firm, with specific experience in employment/workplace law and dispute resolution.  In-house experience (e.g. secondment) is also desirable. 
  • Advocacy experience is desirable (particularly in the Fair Work Commission). 
  • A working understanding of privacy law and the Australian Consumer Law is desirable. 
  • It is mandatory that applicants be law graduates with a degree in law from a reputable Australian or international university. 
  • This role must hold a current relevant practising certificate in a state Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia. 
  • Post-graduate, or other specialist legal qualifications would be desirable (but not necessary).
