The opportunity:

Be at the heart of our mission to become the world's most customer centric Healthcare company!

Are you passionate about shaping health policy and driving meaningful sector reform? We’re looking for a dynamic professional to join our Public Affairs team on a 12-month contract, supporting the Director of Public Affairs in building and leveraging high-impact relationships across government and the healthcare sector.

In this pivotal role, you’ll coordinate external advocacy efforts, contribute to the delivery of our Bupa APAC advocacy strategy, and help shape the external policy landscape to support commercial objectives.

How will I help?

  • Support Bupa APAC’s commercial objectives and reputation with the development of policy positions and comprehensive stakeholder engagement to deliver effective advocacy.
  • Plan, monitor, and develop Bupa’s government, political and industry engagement to enhance effective stakeholder relationships, supporting wider efforts to improve public health and community outcomes.
  • Develop and implement forward-looking plans, and prepare reports, briefs and other documents to support the implementation of advocacy priorities.
  • Work closely with the Director Public Affairs and other internal stakeholders to develop robust corporate advocacy across a range of public policy issues.
  • Work closely with the Director Public Affairs and Head of Policy to design advocacy strategies to support desired policy outcomes, influencing private health reform, the health and aged care policy ecosystem.
  • Assist in coordinating high-quality advocacy plans to support Bupa’s policy submissions and build our reputation as a thought leader in the health sector.

Why work at Bupa?

We keep our people smiling by helping them improve their lives in and outside of the office.

We’re a welcoming lot, no matter who you are or where you’ve come from. We welcome all talents and backgrounds and embrace our differences, so you can bring your true self to work.

We support our people to be the best version of themselves, physically and mentally. With a healthy work/life balance, leadership support, reduced private health cover, study leave, volunteering options and a commitment to promoting from within.

Our employees can access wide range of benefits: from our own products (incl. health insurance discounts) to many other products and services via our partnerships program (like Apple, Samsung, JB Hi-Fi, plus gym and spa discounts to name a few). We reward our people and celebrate their success, provide initiatives that develop careers and look after our people’s health, wellbeing, and futures.

What do I need?

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a strong foundation in political science, public policy, communications, legal or business disciplines, supported by experience in public affairs, government, and stakeholder relations. Your background will give you a solid understanding of the policy environment and regulatory landscape. You’ll be a natural relationship builder both internally and externally, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and navigate complex or sensitive political and social situations with diplomacy.

You’ll be conscientious and organised, with strong project management skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities under pressure. A growth mindset, curiosity, and critical thinking will help you thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You’ll be confident analysing complex policy issues, translating them into actionable insights, and communicating them clearly through high-quality written and verbal communication.

Customer care during COVID

When COVID-19 hit we knew we had a responsibility to care for our customers by putting them at the heart of our decisions.

For this reason, in April 2020 our Health Insurance team invested over $50M and created the hardship team to support our customers when they most needed it.

Ban the asterisk

Our customers have told us that our products can be confusing and complex when we add an asterisk (*) with fine print in our policies. To respond to our customers’ needs, in 2020 the Product Deisgn Squad was created to make our products simpler, more relecant and personalised. Here’s how putting our customers at the heart of everything helped the team ban the *.
