The opportunity: 

We have a General Manager – Conduct Risk, Compliance Governance and Reporting role available in the Risk and Compliance team. 

This role will provide strategic oversight and leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organisation's compliance processes and frameworks, management of conduct risk and deliver reporting across the enterprise (including managing reporting to Group stakeholders). This will include driving effective compliance governance, robust conduct risk management, and fostering a strong compliance culture across the organisation. 

This role covers Australia and New Zealand and is required to work closely with the compliance team in Hong Kong.

The role will ensure that material compliance matters are appropriately represented, discussed, and escalated within key governance forums. This includes accurate, consistent, and comprehensive reporting to Senior Management and the Board on compliance risks, performance of the Compliance Management System, and emerging issues. You will define and embed consistent reporting criteria that support informed decision-making and regulatory compliance.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have:

  • 10+ years’ experience in 1st or 2nd lines of defence compliance roles in APRA regulated organisations. 
  • A strong understanding of APRA and ASIC obligations.
  • Extensive experience in regulatory engagement requirements.
  • Experience preparing compliance management information and insights to assist the business and Risk Committees with oversight of compliance risk.
  • Experience managing regulatory change and working with the business to ensure controls are in place to manage compliance risk.
  • Experience identifying and assessing compliance risks in existing processes and new business. 
  • Experience developing and executing compliance plans.
  • Experience designing training and communications plans.
  • Up to date knowledge of regulatory environment, obligations, and changes.

This is a permanent role that can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, or Adelaide. 

We offer hybrid work arrangements, so you’ll have the flexibility to work from our office in the city in any of these locations or work from home. 

How will I help?

You will add value by:

  • Ensuring accurate and comprehensive reporting of material compliance matters, regulatory developments, and emerging risks to APAC governance forums including BU risk committees, enterprise risk management team reporting, executive committees, Board and Group reporting requirements. 
  • Reporting and raising compliance concerns to APAC Compliance and Conduct Risk Director.
  • Defining and implementing compliance reporting criteria that align with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and organisational risk appetite. This should include the information that needs to be reported to each governance forum such as defined thresholds, definitions of materiality and escalation protocols. 
  • Providing accurate and complete reporting on the performance of the ‘Compliance management system’ including GRC, identifying areas for improvement and strategic enhancements. 
  • Acting as a strategic compliance partner to Business Unit (BU) leaders, ensuring regulatory requirements are integrated into business strategies and operations. 
  • Developing and maintaining the Conduct Risk framework, standards, and guidelines, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations, ethical standards, corporate values, and customer-centric decision-making. 
  • Defining, recommending, and maintaining conduct risk appetite indicators, thresholds, and reporting mechanisms for approval by the Board. 
  • Defining KRIs for the assessment of Compliance Culture and monitor those KRIs at least quarterly. 
  • Promoting a customer-centric compliance culture, ensuring that regulatory obligations and consumer protection principles are integrated into business strategy and decision-making.
  • Providing strategic advice and input in relation to the delivery of and adherence to organisation wide policies and frameworks.
