The purpose of this role:
The Finance Accountant is responsible for performing month-end close activities for the Health Services Business Unit and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the General Ledger. This role involves the preparation and completion of General Ledger reconciliations to a high standard and in a timely manner.
Please note this role supports the ADF Health Services Contract (ADFHS). You must be an Australian citizen and be able to attain and maintain a baseline security clearance from the Defence security and vetting service.
Key responsibilities include:
Month end close – Play a critical role within the financial reporting team in ensuring adherence to strict timelines in performing the monthly general ledger close for entities within the Health Services Business Unit
Group reporting requirements (Tagetik submission) – Play a critical role in the month end submissions to Group Finance team.
Annual financial statements – Assist with the annual statutory reporting process and working with the external auditors to prepare year-end accounts and meet compliance requirements.
General Ledger reconciliations – Prepare General Ledger account reconciliations to facilitate effective record keeping, monthly reporting, audit compliance
Gross Margin reconciliation – Assist with the analysis and reconciliation of revenue and expense transactional data that together make up the Gross Margin.
Three Year Plan balance sheet forecasting - Assist with the balance sheet forecasting process for the Three Year Plan for various operational and holding entities within the Health Services Business Unit. Process documentation and process improvement – Prepare and update process documentation for key month-end close activities
Projects – Assist and support the implementation of new initiatives, business cases and projects impacting the financial reporting team.

What you’ll need to make it happen?
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or related discipline and Chartered Accountant or CPA Australia qualification.
- Strong understanding of Accounting Principles, with a minimum of 3 years accounting experience and a strong understanding of reconciliation processes, audit and control processes and accounting standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (advanced skills in Excel and Word) and accounting software packages (PeopleSoft is desirable but not essential)
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills and experienced with data flows between source systems and general ledger
