Our role Purpose
We have a new and exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Lead Solution Architect to drive the target state architecture across multiple domains, including Health Insurance (HI), Hospitals & Providers, and international portfolios.
We’re hiring a Crew Technology Lead – Engineering to lead our Engineering Enablement function this is a newly created role at the heart of our technology strategy.
Reporting to the Director of Technology Operations, you’ll sit on the Operations Leadership Team and take ownership of evolving Bupa’s end-to-end engineering platform and software delivery lifecycle (SDLC).
This is a high-impact, enterprise-wide role where you’ll design, build, and operate the platforms, tooling, and practices that enable our engineering teams to deliver high-quality software at pace
What you’ll be doing
- Set the strategy and roadmap for Bupa’s engineering platform and ensure it remains secure, scalable, and supportive of diverse engineering needs.
- Lead, mentor, and empower a high-performing team of DevOps, Platform, and Automation Engineers across multiple streams.
- Enable self‑service capabilities that simplify workflows, reduce friction, and offer teams more autonomy and confidence across the SDLC.
- Embed secure-by-default practices through user-friendly tooling, guardrails, and automated compliance controls.
- Support and uplift standards across CI/CD, test automation, observability, and environment provisioning.
- Track and improve engineering performance metrics (e.g., DORA metrics, deployment reliability) to enhance developer experience and productivity.
- Collaborate closely with leaders across Engineering, Product, Cloud, Cyber, and Architecture to ensure alignment with organisational goals. Oversee budgets, workforce planning, and vendor partnerships to ensure sustainable delivery and growth.
- Manage governance and lifecycle management of SDLC tooling and platform services.
- Foster a positive, inclusive engineering culture centred on craftsmanship, continuous learning, wellbeing, and a great developer experience.
What you’ll need to make it possible
- 10+ years’ experience in DevOps, automation, or platform engineering roles.
Demonstrated experience building or operating internal engineering platforms or developer enablement tools at scale. - Strong experience in Agile WOW and managing large squads of Engineers
- Strong knowledge of SDLC tooling across build, test, deploy, security, and operations.
- Expertise in CI/CD, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), IaC, Kubernetes, and automation frameworks.
- Understanding of secure development practices, including security scanning, policy-as-code, and automated controls.
- Experience designing scalable pipelines, test automation frameworks, and robust logging/observability solutions.
- Ability to set clear vision and priorities using inclusive product management principles.
- Ability to influence engineering standards across complex or distributed environments.
- A people-first mindset with a passion for streamlined developer experience, automation, continuous improvement, and purposeful delivery.
