What is Bupa offering?
All eligible* employees are being offered a position with Bupa upon the transfer of ownership of the practice. This employment offer is a result of the transfer of business and under this arrangement your employment conditions will remain the same or better off.
* Eligible employees must hold Australian working rights and satisfy pre-employment checks.
Do I have to accept the offer of employment at Bupa?
No, you are not under any obligation to accept employment with Bupa and may elect to decline the offer of employment.
If I decline, am I eligible for a redundancy payment?
No, as your role is not redundant due to the availability of a role with Bupa, performing substantially the same duties as your current role and on the same (or better) terms and conditions to your current employment conditions.
When would my employment commence with Bupa?
Subject to your acceptance, your employment with Bupa will commence effective immediately following settlement. We will notify you as soon as settlement occurs.
Will there be a change to my compensation?
You will be offered the same or better salary to transfer to Bupa. For some individuals, there may be some slight changes as a result of aligning to our internal compensation framework. Once you have provided your details in our welcome portal, we will email your individual offer information which will contain information such as your pay rate, classification and leave balances.
Who will I report to?
For all practice based roles, your reporting lines will remain unchanged. For head office roles, your reporting lines will be communicated on an individual basis.
Will there be a change in our practice location?
No, we are not making changes to the location of the practice.
Will I still be able to work across locations as I am currently rostered?
Yes, you will be able to continue your current rostered working arrangements, subject to operational requirements.
What happens to my leave entitlements?
Your employment start date with your previous employer will be recognised when calculating eligibility for service-related entitlements such as Long Service Leave and Bupa Paid Parental Leave. Your leave accruals will carry over from your previous employer.
What happens to my service date?
Bupa will recognise your original employment start date with your current employer, for the purpose of all service-related entitlements.
What will happen to any pre-approved leave I have booked in?
There will be no impact to pre-approved leave. Please continue to communicate any leave requests with your practice manager.
What will happen to the flexible working arrangement I have in place?
There will be no impact to your flexible work arrangements. Please continue to communicate any flexible work requests with your practice manager.
Are casuals able to convert to part time as part of the transfer to Bupa?
Bupa has received information from the current employer to facilitate individual employment offers, ensuring they align with the existing terms of employment, including employment types.
Casual employees who wish to request a change to permanent employment may do so during this process. Requests will need to be made in writing. However, such requests will be taken into consideration in conjunction with the staffing mix and rostering requirements of the practice.
If casual employees choose not to request a conversion to permanent at this time, they will retain the option to do so later, in line with the provisions of the Fair Work Act.
Please note that if a casual employee transitions to permanent employment, the casual loading will no longer apply. Additionally, to qualify as a part-time employee, you will need to commit to working a minimum number of hours per week and maintain a regular pattern of hours.
What benefits does Bupa offer?
As an employee of Bupa, you will join our employee health and wellbeing program, Viva.
Viva has been designed to help you to live a healthy and happy life. It encompasses a comprehensive health and wellbeing program which includes access to health insurance benefits that will assist with covering the cost of medical treatment, information and education sessions, and preventative healthcare screening such as annual health assessments and skin checks.
- If you are a permanent employee, you are eligible for a 40% subsidy on Bupa health insurance products (from the retail or overseas visitors range). This subsidy extends to your immediate family as well when they are included on your policy (spouse or partner, and children under 31).
- If you are a fixed-term or casual employee, you are eligible for a 12% discount on a Bupa policy in the retail or overseas range (excluding Active Saver). This subsidy extends to your immediate family as well when they are included on your policy (spouse or partner, and children under 31)
- In addition, Bupa has other employee benefits and discounts with our partners, that are available for our Australian employees.
Does Bupa offer salary sacrifice?
Bupa has a Superannuation and Salary Sacrifice Policy that allows employees to salary sacrifice into their superannuation. Additionally, there are specific salary sacrifice arrangements available for certain benefits, such as car fringe benefits. Our policy details the available benefits and the limitations associated with each, ensuring compliance with tax laws. Will there be impacts to my roster or role and responsibilities?
No, we will not be making any changes to rostering or roles and responsibilities at this time.
What is Bupa’s Pay cycle?
Bupa operates on a fortnightly pay cycle, meaning employees receive their pay every two weeks. The payroll calendar will be made available to you when you commence employment.
Why does Bupa require pre-employment checks?
We conduct background checks to make sure we’re meeting our legislated requirements and to make sure our patients and customers are not at risk.
What pre-employment checks are required?
We’ll run a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (details any Disclosable Court Outcomes (DCO) and pending charges associated with your name) and entitlement to work rights.
How is my information stored and secured during the pre-employment check process?
Your information is stored securely and in line with privacy legislation by our third party provider. We do not store or keep any documents associated with the checks, except visa details for those on a visa.
What will the onboarding process look like?
- You will receive a link to access the Bupa digital welcome portal l where you will be required to provide some contact information to get you set up in our onboarding systems and make contact with you.
- After entering your details, you will receive a email from our People team, to provide you with an overview of the key details of our offer of employment and provide you with further details on the onboarding process.
- It is important to note that as part of our standard recruitment compliance practices, you will be required to participate in a background check and police check. Nurses will additionally be required to have their qualifications verified and participate in an AHPRA check.
- Upon successful completion of the background check, you will be issued a Bupa employment contract, which you will be required to sign and return, to commence the remaining onboarding activities as a Bupa employee.
- Once your hire is complete, we will provide with access to our employee journey portal to complete the onboarding tasks required to set you up to start and be paid from day 1 (payroll information, super, tax, personal contact details and code of conduct).
Will I receive training?
Yes, we will ensure you are provided training in any new systems, policies and processes that you are required to learn. More information on this will be provided once your employment with Bupa commences.
