Senior Design Researcher

Be at the heart of it!

We have a clear ambition to be the world's most customer-centric healthcare company. To bring our ambition to life, we are evolving how we do things to create value for our customers now and into the future. Our global purpose is to help our customers live healthier and happier lives. Just imagine the impact you could make.

How will you make an impact?

As a Senior Design Researcher, you’ll lead mixed-methods research within Bupa’s Growth and Acquisition crew, supporting digital product development and health insurance product strategy. You’ll be the primary researcher driving evidence-based decisions for new products, policy changes, pricing strategies, and market appeal investigations.

This role blends digital product research with market research, requiring strong quantitative skills. You’ll work alongside behavioural and design researchers, applying advanced statistical techniques and market research methodologies to uncover insights that shape product, policy, and pricing decisions.

You’ll also manage complex stakeholder relationships, helping them define problems and translate findings into actionable outcomes. Your expertise will help shape research standards, facilitate workshops, and adapt approaches for complex and regulated environments.

This role reports to the Research Manager and is being offered as a permanent full-time opportunity. The role can be based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, with hybrid working arrangements (a mix of working from home and in-office collaboration).

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver mixed-method research that uncovers customer needs, behaviours, and market trends to inform product, policy, and pricing decisions.
  • Conduct qualitative studies (interviews, usability testing, ethnography) and quantitative research (surveys, choice modelling, pricing assessments, market sizing).
  • Analyse and synthesise findings from large datasets using advanced statistical techniques, translating insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Investigate market appeal for new products and services, supporting health insurance product strategy and acquisition initiatives.
  • Facilitate workshops that turn research insights into design opportunities and strategic decisions.
  • Define and uphold quality benchmarks for research, ensuring rigour, ethics, and inclusivity.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and business teams to integrate insights into delivery and decision-making.
  • Mentor junior researchers and promote inclusive, evidence-driven practices across teams.

About you

You’re an experienced design researcher with strong quantitative research expertise and the ability to apply mixed methods to complex problems. You thrive in environments where you can combine digital product research with market research, using advanced analytics to influence product and policy decisions. You’re confident engaging senior stakeholders, even when requirements are ambiguous, and you excel at translating data into clear, actionable insights.

Key skills & experience required:

  • 5+ years in design research, experience research, or related fields, with proven mixed-method expertise.
  • Strong quantitative research skills, including advanced statistical analysis, survey design, choice modelling, and pricing assessments.
  • Experience working with large datasets and applying market research techniques.
  • Familiarity with qualitative methods such as interviews, usability testing, and ethnography.
  • Proven ability to deliver insights that shape digital products, services, and policy decisions.
  • Strong facilitation skills for workshops and co-design sessions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence decisions and clarify ambiguous requirements.
  • Advanced degree in psychology, behavioural science, social science, UX design, anthropology, or related field, with advanced statistics training.
  • Background in market research as well as design research is highly desirable.
